Delightful Artist’s Home in Calibishie
Designed and created by an artist, this unique home sits serenely on a ridge overlooking the scenic bay of Calibishie. Originally created as a home and art studio, the rooms are spacious and airy, painted in pretty Caribbean colors which complement the well-conceived layout of the house.
With a total living area of 2000 sq feet, the house is comprised of 3 floors. Located on the main floor is the kitchen(12’x18’), a bathroom and a large living area (20’x18’) – all open to the views of Guadeloupe. The top floor contains a sizable bedroom/studio (20’x24’) with 2 verandas and a bathroom. The lower floor houses a guest room (20’x12’). There is adequate closet and storage space and also a small laundry room.
The home comes with a propane gas refrigerator and 2 large propane tanks. It is also equipped with solar power for electricity and hot water and with 3 large water tanks including a backup pump to hold 1800 gallons of water. Public utilities are close by and could easily be connected.
The owner’s artistic touch extends throughout the property which totals just over 1/2 acre. Surrounding the home is a large collection of tropical flowers and plants which attract numerous species of birds including parrots and hummingbirds. There are ample concrete paths and concrete steps between house, garage and garden. Steps lead to the lower part of the garden which has been planted with various fruit trees, existing through 9 years of organic production. Additionally there is a garden shed with raised beds set up for growing vegetables.
The property is located in a rural area of Calibishie, about 1 mile from the main road, providing a tranquil, semi-private setting atop a hilltop ridge with superb views and embracing the cooling breezes from the Trade Winds. Surely an inspiring environment for any type of creative person.
The picturesque village of Calibishie is one of the fastest growing areas of development on the island. It is a popular vacation spot as well as home to a growing number of ex-pats. Not surprising – some of the best beaches in Dominica are around the corner and the Douglas-Charles International Airport is just a 15 minutes’ drive away.
